Rules of the River

In order to keep Current River enjoyable for everyone, please remember to follow these basic rules. Refusal to abide by these rules may result in dismissal from the river or, if applicable, prosecution by law.

The River Rules

Overnight canoeing and rafting trips should be undertaken only by experienced floaters. All of the these trips take you through very remote areas and there are very few communication areas such as cell phone service, public phones, restrooms, or stores. It is possible that you could be affected by inclimate weather, etc. Remember that you cannot be picked up after you set out from your put-in point, so plan accordingly with food, water, clothing and shelter.

Containers & Litter

  • No glass bottled beverages within 50 feet of the river.
  • No foam coolers within 50 feet of the river.
  • No littering. Please help us keep the river clean by picking up litter and hauling it to a landing.

Alcohol & Illegal Substances

All Missouri and Federal alcohol regulations are aggressively enforced.

  • No minors in possession of alcohol. Rangers will call your parents and/or take you into custody!
  • No excessive alcohol use including a beer bong, kegs of any size, “jello” shots, or large volume containers that hold more than one gallon of an alcoholic beverage.
  • No open containers. An open container of alcoholic beverage in a vehicle is prohibited.
  • Absolutely no illegal drugs.

Behavior

  • No cliff diving, jumping, or use of rope swings.
  • Turn the volume down. Keep stereo systems and other noise making devices below 60 decibels—low enough to not interfere with normal conversation.
  • No public nudity or solicitation for nudity.
  • Be respectful to others
  • Do not harass animals, destroy plants, disturb archeological sites, deface, or otherwise damage historic structures

National Park Service Rangers and State Officials enforce regulations through Federal and State Courts.
